Organic Eggs are not always what it says on the box!

I came across an article this morning the subject matter of which I'm fairly familiar. That is, how the 'Organic', 'Free-range' and 'Bio' eggs you find in the supermarket are not what they seem.

Article: Organic Eggs: Exposing the Fraud of Grocery Store Organic Eggs

and if you don't read the article I would highly recommend a short video view (this is a tame one compared to other exposes I've seen):

We recently bought some chickens from a local 'Bio' egg producer. They sell off chickens older than one year every summer as the eggs produced (if produced) no longer meet the strict EU guidelines for size and quality! Well, as they sell the chickens for just 2 Euros each it was a steal and a great opportunity to get some healthy chickens...we thought ^^

Here's what we got...
We lost this one to a parasitic disease she couldn't fight naturally due to her condition and reduced immunity

Charlies Angels! or is it Foghorn Leghorn & Co?

Houdini...who for obvious reasons did actually manage her mission to true freedom...only to get caught and eaten by an opportunistic dog! Hey hum!

When the chickies were released into the newly enlarged chickie park to meet their new comrades Monsieur & Mademoiselle they just didn't know what to do with themselves. And the poor cockerel (Monsieur, in case you needed reassuring) was looking around as if to say "What the hell are these?". They looked like little aliens. The poor mites had hardly any feathers and severely smarting bottoms if the redness on their bums was as sore as it looked. I fact when they all settled in the sun, most of them had to lie on their sides.

Even in such a state they were each producing a huge egg per day! Bless them!

Fortunately, after months of loving care and some good grub, and with the addition of garlic granules and cinnamon powder in their food to eliminiate the parasites (works like a dream!), they chickies are now well recovered and all have fluffy white bottoms and beautiful feathery plumes, just in time for the cold weather.

'Monsieur' looking pleased with himself now his brood is beautiful

So next time you see a lovely healthy, fat chicken on the egg box in the supermarket...remember this face...
