Project Gratitude - Update 1#

Just 3 months after the project page pic and you can already see the difference a bit of hardwork, some recycled materials and some sand and cement can do...the roof panels on the barn were purchased new. Still need to get real windows for the veranda to replace the plastic sheets.

The gravel areas in front of the house are actually 2ft deep berns to help restock the water table with rainwater runoff after the water collectors are full.

The circular 'green' area is my 'herb' circle, presently planted with black radish, salad, rosemary and some flowers.

'Project Gratitude' is born!

After returning to Europe in 2012 after living in India for 7 years I very quickly began to develop EMF sensitivity to the point where I can no longer support being in an environment where there are mobile phones, wifi, dect phones...and the like. As you can imagine it means there aren't many places left other than home. Home in Ile de France, Paris for almost a year was the in-laws 3rd floor apartment 50 metres over which loomed 3 mobile phone masts. There were 2 'smart water meters' in the toilet...and that was just our apartment. The minimum RF(microwave frequency) measurement, all day long, was 0.25vm2 (Bioinitiative safe level being 0.02vm2!) Needless to say I was tired all the time and didn't go out much.

Hubby is also a sufferer and his lymph nodes had swelled to a worrying size and neither of us are able to work outside home because most places (offices, trains, planes and even the local doctors surgery) now have wifi and nearly everyone has a smartphone/tablet...all of which causes me to get an instant headache, nausea and worst of all heart palpitations which can be very frightening. It takes a day to recover from a short supermarket trip. It's a debilitating and very real malady, and it causes us to be severly disconnected from the world.

So, we finally managed, by the grace of the divine, to find an old farmhouse in the remote Auvergne countryside, 4km from the nearest mobile tower and with a calm 0.01vm2 reading. However, using all our funds to purchase we have run out of resources to repair and to build our dream - which is to create a self-sustaining, profit generating homestead where other EMF sufferers can take long or short term refuge away from the waves (nearly all hotels now have wifi too!).

Here's the deal....There's just the two of us; we survive on around 500 Euros a month (from the state, which doesn't pay me because I'm not French) - which is ok and we're very grateful; I've managed to grow enough food to sustain us in the 5 months since we came and am studying permaculture and medicinal/wild plants; and we've repaired as much as we could before our budget ran out. We're recycling all the materials possible and have found free sources for certain things like wood and tyres for future building.  We're not lazy and I try to get freelance editing/VO work but it's slim pickings I can tell you.
Project Gratitude is a project being built on thanks and with love and sincerity.

We desperately need funds to:
- fix the roof - 15,000 Euros
- get the bathroom plumbed and a shower installed (presently taking bucket baths and flushing toilet with waste kitchen water) - 3,000 Euros
- create an income generating food forest and aquaponics system (a la permaculture) - 2,000 Euros
And then, if we are blessed to do so and because we are so thankful that we have a safe environment, we would love to be able to offer others a microwave free place to stay which would consist of four double occupancy solar powered cabins with individual shower/toilet - approx 20,000 Euros.

As it seems that crowdfunding is the way to go to raise cash for viable projects I searched around and found 'Gofundme.com' which seems less comercialised than the likes of Indigogo.com who seem to send marketing only for the techie projects, nearly all of which are based around 'wireless' (read 'wifi and microwave emitting') techology. And so 'Project Gratitude' is born! There are a few updates I posted there which I'll continue to repost here for now until we set up a separate blog - not having time to sit at the PC much (nor the inclination to be honest).

Check it out and please, please, please donate and share the link...if you can spare the price of a cup of coffee or lunch we'll use the cash for cement and roof tiles :D

Every euro, every cent, every blessing is received with gratitude!

An 'Adhoc' exhibition - Yatra Arts Foundation, Auroville 2013

We called the event 'Adhoc' because it was literally created out of the blue.

Osiva coaxed me into participation, despite my pleas of having no paintings to exhibit. "No problem, we can make", he calmly told me, "You only need 10 or 15". 10 or 15! Well that's easier said than done, I thought, especially as I'd never before painted to order ^^

Lo and behold, 10 days later I did indeed have 10 A4 sized watercolours ready to go...on the other hand Osiva had yet to produce his promised new paintings, lol. Not to worry though because they miraculously appeared the next morning, still wet, as we framed my efforts and began to set up the gallery. Only in India, lol.

Having limited resources tends to bring out the most creative in me, as does being under pressure...probably why I don't generally get much done unless someone's got a red hot poker pointed at my nether regions. So thanks to Osiva's insistence and persistence and encouragement I offered up the following:

A big thanks to all at Yatra, as usual, is offered with sincerity and a copy of their blog post marking the event. The kids really put on a wonderful show - the dancing and singing, acting and smiles!

“Adhoc” art exhibition showcases local and international painting talents at the Yatra Arts Foundation

header_image

On Saturday, 21 December 2013, the Yatra Arts Foundation hosted the opening reception for Adhoc, an art exhibition featuring the paintings of Osiva, Yatra’s painting instructor from Kuilapalayam, and Louise Robinson, a long-time Yatra supporter visiting from France. Coordinated and supported by Yatra staff, Adhoc, defined as “something formed for special and immediate purpose without previous planning,” earned its name from the spontaneous decision by the two artists to create the exhibition mere days before opening.

_MG_2334

Osiva’s Impressionist-style paintings took their inspiration from a variety of local and foreign landscapes, village temples, Indian women washing in a river or standing with clay vessels, and Diyana. Exploring color and shape in a modern style, Louise used watercolors, collected rainwater, and pen to experiment with the technique of applying a watercolor wash and pulling out imagery inspired by the wash with pen.

On the night of the reception, Yatra director E. Srinivassan introduced the artists to the audience and called attention to their excellent artwork. After the introductions, Yatra’s students presented a veena performance by S. Priyadharshini, Bharatanatyam, and folk dance, including a popular gypsy dance. Many visitors from Auroville, Kuilapalayam and Pondicherry, parents, children and well-wishers came to the opening day of the exhibition and were inspired by the talents of artists Osiva and Louise.

For more information on the exhibition or pricing list, please contact Yatra’s office at 04132623071.

My baby ADILOE hits the market in style!

'A Day in the Life of the Earth' now available on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L978P28

ADILOE was the first kids book I ever wrote. In actual fact it began as the script for a small play conducted  by the wonderful kids at Yatra Arts Foundation, Auroville on Independence Day, 2007, which was also an excuse for me to practice my sari wrapping skills too.

After painstakingly making face masks to suit the characters, much to the kids delight as I kept this as a surprise, I was inspired to create some illustrations one monsoon clouded afternoon.

The story of ADILOE doesn't stop there either. A little later during a voice recording session in Pondicherry at my favourite studio 'Astha Digital' I was introduced to Ramesh Reddy of equire technologies, an established epub firm. After a few meetings ADILOE was brought to life using my original illustrations...though never made it to the market for one reason or another, which I always thought was a shame as it was quite magical to see the characters smiling and blinking, I even added some of the sound effects myself :)

Not wanting ADILOE to be destined to be one of those things you do and then pack away to look at when you're old and reminiscing, I never lost hope. Et Voila! One drizzly day in Paris I got connected with Yannick from Lightbooks Publishing, who said he'd like to publish my little tome with some different illustrations. But don't think that was an easy decision my dears...no, no, no...the sensitivities of us creative folks (even if we profess otherwise) can get a little scratched, especially if someone offers to publish your book, only not with your illustrations - because that could insinuate that your pictures aren't good enough, lol. Not being quite so egotistical (I am a little, I admit) I offered ADILOE to the grace to do with as desired. And I'm very pleased to say that Celeste Aires did a wonderful job at recreating the characters with a retro yet modern twist.

So, the day has finally arrived when I can say that I am a published writer. I know it's not exactly 'War and Peace' but it's certainly a start and I'm very grateful to all involved along the way...a story in itself...from Yatra to equire, to Smashwords and Lulu.com (self-published original format), and finally to Lightbooks Publishing who have embraced me as a part of their international team...what a trip it's been.

Here's the recent interviews Celeste Aires (illustrator) and I gave for the launch:

A day in the life of the Earth inteview by authors Louise Robinson and Celeste Aires

hello Louise where do you come from and how long have you worked as an illustrator/author?
Hi, I'm Louise and I was born in Lancashire, UK...though I haven't lived in the UK now for over 13 years. I lived in Spain for 5 years, then India for 7 years and I now live in France with my husband. I started sketching when I was at school but then didn't do anything between 1985-1999 when I took up drawing and painting again. I wrote my first poem in 1999 and have not stopped scribbling since :)

tell us in few words about your book "A day in the Life of the Earth"
ADILOE is a simple, colourful and fun way for kids to learn about the cycle of the earth, sun and moon and few other elements too. It aims to spark their imagination and to get them to pay attention to the natural world around them. The original illustrations were inspired by the 'Mr. Men' by Roger Hargreaves - Celeste has simply offered a new dimension and more modern slant to my original concept.

do you work more digitally or traditional?
I'm a traditionalist at heart. When I write I write on paper before transposing to the PC and when I draw I prefer to draw and paint on paper or canvas...or walls or t-shirts...or fabric and even furniture!

what do you do when you are off work?
I read A LOT and I love experimenting in the kitchen. I also enjoy spending time in nature and the garden with my plants and animals (and my husband too, obviously)

what is your favorite book and color?
Favourite book is a difficult one...most inspiring, life changing one was 'Who will cry when you die' by Robin Sharma and I recently read 'My family and other animals' by George Durrell, which was an amazing and funny book. My favourite colour changes depending on my mood but it's mostly either red or lilac.

say "hello" and "book" to us in your native laguage.
As I'm now in France...'Bonjour' and 'Livre'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hello Celeste Aires where are you from and how long you work as illustrator/author?
Hi there! I was born in San Juan, Argentina, but I actually live in Buenos Aires where I study Animation Direction.
I¥ve been writing and drawing since I was little, but I became a professional Illustrator around a year ago :)

tell us in few words about your book "A Day In The Life Of Earth"
This is a book written by Louise Robinson and illustrated by me. It is a book for little children that
introduce diferent characters like the wind, the moon, the stars, the earth itself, among others.
It¥s a funny educative book that looks kind of retro. I¥m actually very happy with it!

do you work more digitally or traditional?
I work mostly digitally, but I love working with paper collage, watercolor, silckscreen printing, and many other
traditional materials.

what do you do when you are off work?
I always have an ongoing personal proyect to work on, besides drawing I like writing and rock climbing.

what is your favorite book and color?
I don¥t have a favorite book or color. I have many! But if I have to choose only one I think I¥ll choose the HervÈ Morvan artwork book.
I love the style and I always find it to be a great inspiration. About colors, I like them all, my name "Celeste" means "light blue"
so that¥s a color I really like!

an artist you like and you advice to follow?
It¥s very difficult to choose just one artist since there are so many great ones! But I definitely advice everybody to watch Wes Anderson¥s movies.
He is an awesome artist, in every possible way.

say "hello" and "book" to us in your native laguage.

I am ONE

I was musing over my tea early this morning about how to next approach the job of colouring my hair. I have a pack of natural henna for such an occasion, yet I enjoy very much the sun-bleached blonde which adorns the lower ends of my successfully growing tresses.

The henna, while totally natural, will leave everything presently white-blonde a little 'yellow' and as the sun isn't shining so much now I'm back in the throws of winter in France, and it's not likely to come out for another month or two either, then there's no chance of lightening it using lemon & chamomile tea.

Bleached
Nothing for 3 months!
Henna

Then I thought about going to buy a product from the 'Bio' pharmacy, after all they had colours which purport to be 'organic', and a little part of me said "Yes that would be good, do it!" - but the better part of me remembered that the reason I stopped buying wasn't just because of chemicals but because of the effects of the unsustainable use of all the palm products contained in the cosmetics. I also remembered that I had not taken on a job because of this stance of not wanting to support that industry, or in fact any of the conglomerates as much as possible (I am human and admit that from time to time I still reach for certain products when I'm not in a good state of consciousness, usually as a result of PMT ^^).

This took me along a whole other train of thought as I picked at the left-over salad from the night before and returned the piece of bread I had absentmindedly buttered and was about to eat. It was the bread and butter that woke me up actually, I don't eat wheat for many reasons (the topic of a whole other blog post to come) and yet here I was succumbing to my vital for what reason? Did I really want the bread? Was there nothing else that I could eat instead? Was I hungry? Why did I stop eating bread? Was it primarily because of the gluten, or because of the GMO's? If it was because of the GMO's was it because it was bad for me or because of not wanting to support the frankenstein comany that has created the monster crops which are dominating the planet at the moment? What's the point in trying to make a difference anyway, no-one else is bothered, why should I be? Am I doing it simply to make me look good, do I really care? Is my small contribution really going to make a difference and if not then I might as well carry on as before, it would make life a lot easier and cheaper...you see where I went, lol.

So finally, after refusing the bread and relegating it to the plate with the gluten-free and tasty Ginger & Sultana cake (own receipe ^^), and of course taking a piece of cake because I decided I was hungry after all the thinking, I reached a conclusion (not just that I'll go with the Henna, lol). This conclusion is something I think I need to print and stick on my fridge to remind me WHY.

I may just be ONE, but I am ONE all the same.
If my ONE means ONE less tree is felled
If my ONE means ONE less animal suffers at the hands of Man
If my ONE means ONE less drop of oil is used
If my ONE means just ONE breath of air is purer
If my ONE means ONE molecule of water is unpolluted
If my ONE means ONE less dollar in the hands of the adverse forces
If my ONE means ONE more soul on the path of truth
If my ONE means ONE more drop of consciousness on the planet
If my ONE means ONE more wave of love and hope penetrating the hearts of the enslaved
If my ONE means alienation from ONE other because I think and act differently
If my individual conscious actions change ONE small thing, every day...then I'm happy to be ONE

What are you? ONE or the other?

The Ringing Cedars

A friend of mine gave me a book to read while I was in India last month because she said I might like it ('A New Civilisation' by Vladimir Megre - Book 8, Part I). I was immediately entranced, not only by the book but also by the wonderful story attached to it. It's one of nine books from The Ringing Cedars of Russia Book Series all by the same author.

There's one quote in particular that reached out to me from the book and which I felt was something I wanted to share as it contains sentiments I've felt within and often reflected on:

Anastasia says:
"God created everything Man needs - Man has within himself a means of transportation as well as imagination through which he can see far better pictures than are shown on TV. Man is also capable of effecting the mastery of other planets of the Universe without the aid of primitive artificial projectiles.

It was God who determined Man's purpose and destiny, as well as the programme of development for all life in the Universe. To attain the required understanding, Man needs to refrain from destroying His programme and to study for all he's worth and ascertain the purpose of everything on the Earth."

I say:
We need to get back in touch with Nature, to understand how she works, to work with Her, to nurture and to learn how to best use what's available for food, shelter and health. We need to talk less - we have within us the power to communicate without phones, without a need for flooding the planet with cell-destroying, unnatural vibrations. And we need to do more to utilise our inner resources for development, not the selfishly derived and mostly virtual thing we call money.

We need to get back to basics, to reconnect with the soil, to re-learn the art of communication through body and mind, to learn how to stand still and really observe and listen to our bodies, to the earth, to all the wonderful creatures that deserve to be here just as much as we do, if not more, and who all have a place in the bigger picture - bees, birds, butterflies, ants, fish, lizards, cats & dogs all the way up to the bigger species like elephants, tigers and giraffes. Nothing else really matters but this right now.

We need to nurture a "New Earth' from lessons of old, to prepare for and to emerge ready for the advent of the Superman...(not Clark Kent!) the ultimate evolution of our species. He won't arrive if the earth is not ready and the way we are heading it seems that it will have to be completely ploughed and replanted like a farmers field in order to start all over again with a new crop. A sad but distinct possibility.

In the meantime I do what I can in my own small space called a body. I have developed a thirst for knowledge, a closer connection with my soul, a better sense of hearing and sight which is not necessarily external, a wonderful newfound awareness of my own intuitions and an ability to sense the emotions of the life around me when I'm allowed to be still enough. I know our world as we know it will come to an end, it may be tomorrow, it may be next week, next month or even in 100 years or more but it will end. Yet, despite the dark days which descend from time to time trying to rock my resolve, I remain confident of and ever thankful for my own existence. I am love, I give love and I am worthy of love!

The following is an excerpt taken from the official website which explains the whole wonderful inspiration for the series (http://www.ringingcedarsofrussia.org/Main/English/index.php), I hope they don't mind me sharing ^^

"THE RINGING CEDARS OF RUSSIA"
The Story of The Ringing Cedars of Russia Book Series
The story began in 1994 on the bank of the River Ob amidst the endless expanses of the Siberian taiga. The well-known Siberian entrepreneur Vladimir Megre met with two elderly gentlemen who told him about the amazing properties of the Siberian cedar (also known in the West as the Siberian pine ). At first he didn't pay much attention to what they told him, but as he continued to reflect on it, Vladimir began to discover, in the historical and scientific literature he examined, more and more evidence supporting their words. Finally he decided to organize an expedition with a fleet of river steamers. The expedition was ostensibly for commercial purposes, but in actual fact his overriding motivation was to find the elders again and learn more about the secrets of the cedar.
A meeting which changed a life
Having instructed his fleet's captain to maintain their course, Vladimir slipped away by himself at the exact spot where he had met the two elders the previous year. On the riverbank he found a woman waiting for him who turned out to be their granddaughter. She called herself Anastasia . This woman, through the depth of her knowledge, her sincere love and her outlook on the world, was to have a profound influence on Vladimir 's whole life.
At first he saw her simply as a young attractive woman who, though she appeared quite knowledgeable about modern urban society, seemed to be utterly naive in her aspirations to change that society from her remote location far off in the wilds of Siberia.
Later, however, Vladimir came face to face with certain psychic abilities of Anastasia's which defied explanation, even though they were undeniably real to his perception - inexplicably manifesting themselves in a tragic struggle of virtue against vice which unfolded before his very eyes. He was shaken by scenes somehow presented to him from his not-too-distant past, but from a totally new point of view. Now able to look at his own and others' behaviour more objectively, Vladimir gained a new appreciation of what Anastasia was endeavouring to do, and in an effort to help, he promised to fulfil Anastasia's request and write a book about his experiences.
Action
Upon returning to his home in Novosibirsk , Vladimir made a series of unsuccessful attempts to spread this new outlook on the world among his friends. He went to Moscow and tried to organize a league of pure-minded entrepreneurs - again without success. Finding himself on the edge of an abyss, he finally remembered his promise to Anastasia to write a book, along with her assurance that the book would help many people see the world in a new light and give him the strength to go forward.

Then something incredible happened: without any specialised training, Vladimir Megre launched into writing a series of books which in a very short time became extraordinarily popular, selling in the millions, and would be translated into some twenty languages. Each passing day introduced more and more new readers all over the world to these remarkable writings.
The books set forth - in very clear language - profound ideas about the education of children and the importance of communicating with living Nature - ideas ranging from nutrition and health to spirituality and sexual relations. With their practical wisdom on matters of everyday life, the books have become the basis for a number of sociological studies and scholarly papers.
